Hemp, Cannabis sativa

Cold-pressed hemp seed oil is a plant-based oil naturally rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids - essential nutrients for dogs and cats. These healthy fats are often included in pet diets to help maintain skin comfort, coat appearance, and everyday vitality. The oil is mild in taste, easy to mix with food, and generally well tolerated - even by pets with more sensitive digestion.

Because hemp seed oil is non-psychoactive and contains zero THC, it’s completely safe for everyday pet use - just clean, balanced nutrition from nature.

Hemp has been feeding animals for centuries - farm animals once snacked on hemp seeds for energy and shine long before cold-pressed oils existed. Today’s pets may dine from ceramic bowls instead of barn floors, but the benefits remain just as relevant. Hemp’s gentle, nourishing character has stood the test of time - now served with a modern twist (and no muddy paws required)

Milk Thistle, Silybum marianum

Cold-pressed from the seeds of the milk thistle plant (Silybum marianum), this oil is valued for its long-standing use in traditional wellness practices - both for people and animals. Often incorporated into routines during times of dietary change or environmental stress, it offers a mild, plant-based option to complement your pet’s daily nourishment.

Many pet owners appreciate its gentle nature and how easily it blends into food, providing a simple way to support consistent wellness routines over time.

Milk thistle seeds contain silymarin, a naturally occurring flavonoid complex that has been the subject of extensive pharmacological study - particularly in relation to antioxidant activity and cellular support. It continues to be explored in both human and veterinary research for its nutritional role and botanical significance.

Legend has it that milk thistle got its name from the milky streaks on its leaves, said to be drops of the Virgin Mary’s milk. While that origin story may be hard to prove, the plant’s use spans more than 2,000 years - from Roman physicians to modern herbalists. Today, it remains one of the most respected traditional herbs, celebrated for its natural resilience and enduring reputation

Black seed (Black Cumin), Nigella sativa

Cold-pressed from the seeds of the Nigella sativa plant, black seed oil is a bold and distinctive oil with a rich history and remarkable plant compounds. Because of its strength and flavor, it's best introduced to dogs in small amounts, thoughtfully added to their meals. Its naturally occurring compounds have been traditionally appreciated for their role in supporting overall balance and vitality.

The key component in black seed oil, thymoquinone, has been widely studied in scientific and nutritional research for its antioxidant properties and biological activity. These studies help explain its long-standing place in traditional wellness systems across cultures.

Black seed oil was discovered in King Tutankhamun’s tomb and is often referred to as “the oil of the pharaohs.” Ancient Egyptian physicians believed it helped the body stay in harmony, and it remains a respected botanical in many traditional practices today. While your dog may not care about pharaohs, we think they’d still approve of a royal touch in the dinner bowl

Pumpkin, Cucurbita pepo

Cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil is naturally rich in zinc, vitamin E, and plant sterols. Traditionally included in animal and human diets, it fits easily into a daily feeding routine - especially for senior pets or those with sensitive tummies.

Its deep green colour comes from a naturally high antioxidant content - and while your dog or cat might not care about that, their body just might. Add a few drops to meals and let nature do the quiet work.

Pumpkin seed oil has been the subject of nutritional research in both human and veterinary contexts, particularly for its unique mix of essential fatty acids and phytosterols - naturally occurring plant compounds with interesting physiological characteristics.

While pumpkin spice might rule fall lattes, pumpkin seeds have long played a nutritional role in North America and Europe. In fact, early Canadian homesteaders would roast the seeds and use the oil as a food-based tonic - for themselves and their farm dogs. Turns out, long before labels and labs, nature had its own version of pet care.

Our Story

North Hill is more than a brand - it's part of our family's story.

At North Hill, we create thoughtfully formulated cold-pressed oils to support the everyday health and wellness of dogs and cats. Rooted in nature and backed by pharmaceutical expertise, our products combine the natural benefits of hemp seeds with carefully selected additions like milk thistle, pumpkin, and black seed oils. Each blend is crafted to promote skin and coat health, immune support, and overall vitality - without unnecessary additives.

After moving to Canada in 2023 from Ukraine in search of a safer future, we found our first home near Calgary's Nose Hill. Surrounded by nature and feeling grounded for the first time in months, we were inspired to build something meaningful. That peaceful place became the namesake of our brand.

Though I spent over a decade working in the pharmaceutical industry in Ukraine, my path unexpectedly led me into the pet world when I took my first job here in Canada. What started as a temporary step soon became a calling. I found a community full of compassion - where the kindest people care deeply for their animals and treat them as family. It felt natural to bring my background in human health into this new space, to create products that reflect the same level of quality and care I always believed in.
Today, North Hill is a small, family-run business built on trust, love for animals, and a deep commitment to wellness. As we grow, our goal is to expand into more natural, science - informed products that help pets live better, healthier lives - just like family should!

Frequently Asked Questions

What's inside oil blends?
Each blend contains cold-pressed, food-grade plant oils. We carefully select combinations like hemp, milk thistle, black seed, and pumpkin seed oils. These natural ingredients have a long history of traditional use in supporting everyday wellness in pets. We keep it simple - no fillers, no synthetic additives, just thoughtfully selected oils.
How do I use these oils for my pet?
Simply add the recommended amount to your pet’s food or directly into mouth once daily. Start with a small dose to see how your pet responds, then adjust to the daily level recommended on the label
How much should I give my dog or cat?
Please follow the instructions on the label, unless your veterinarian recommends otherwise. If you're using the oil for the first time, start with half the recommended dose and gradually increase to the full dose over the course of a week
Are North Hill oils safe for both dogs and cats?
All ingredients in North Hill oils are safe and well-known in both human and pet diets. However, the Original and Digest blends are suitable for both dogs and cats, while Renew and Boost are intended for dogs only - unless your veterinarian suggests otherwise
What’s the difference between each blend?
Each blend combines hemp seed oil with another cold-pressed oil (like milk thistle, black seed, or pumpkin) to offer different nutrient profiles. You can find details about each ingredient on the product page under “Our Ingredients.”
Are there any side effects or precautions?
North Hill oils are made from gentle plant-based ingredients, but as with any dietary change, it’s best to start slowly and watch for any signs of sensitivity. Stop use and consult your vet if you notice anything unusual
Can I give these oils to a pregnant or nursing pet?
We recommend consulting your veterinarian before using any supplement or oil if your pet is pregnant, nursing, or has a medical condition
Should I consult my vet before using these oils?
Yes, especially if your pet is on medication or has specific health concerns. While our oils are made from natural food-grade ingredients, a veterinarian can help ensure they’re a good fit for your pet's individual needs
Is 0,5 - 2 ml of oil enough for a daily routine?
Yes, it is! To produce just 100 ml of cold-pressed oil, it takes approximately 350–400 grams of seeds. This means that even 1 ml of oil provides the nutritional value of several grams of carefully selected seeds - enough to support your pet’s natural well-being as part of a daily routine
